Rajasthan is the leading state of India to start the Equivalency Programme. The programme was introduced as a pilot project in Sikar and Ajmer in May, 2003.
Equivalency Programme is an alternative education programme identical to the existing formal, general or vocational education. The programme was launched in Rajasthan in collaboration with the National Institute of Open School,
Government of India, Noida with an objective to fulfill the goal of universalisation of education, by providing opportunities to the neo-literates to appear in the examinations of A, B
and C level (Class III, V & VIII). More than two lac neo literates have been benefited through the programme of which 70% are women.
The endeavours have been encouraged by the laurels of the educationists of 9 countries (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Srilanka, Nigeria, Thailand, China, Bangkok,
Philippines, Lao etc). The examination certificates are issued by the National Institute of Open School, Noida and it carries the same recognition as that of formal education.
